Eid Shopping: Priority on light fabrics, brand shops

Shawdesh Desk:

While choosing dresses for themselves and their family members, Eid shoppers are giving importance to light fabrics this year, keeping the scorching heat in mind, apart from prioritising clothes from brand shops.

Shoppers from the upper economic class, upper-middle-class, and middle-class are thronging different shopping malls, but the lower middle class and working-class people have not begun their Eid shopping in full scale as they are yet to receive their Eid bonus.

Even if it rains, the weather will be quite hot during this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr celebration. Therefore, demand for cotton clothes has increased among customers.

Nayeema Hossain, a housewife who was purchasing clothes at Bashundhara City Shopping Mall, said, “I have come to buy clothes for myself and my family members. Since it will be hot this Eid, I am buying cotton clothes. I will buy comfortable clothes with a light design.”

Lightly designed panjabi-pajamas, shirts, t-shirts, fatwa, and kabli are available in the shopping malls for youths.

On the other hand, young women are picking saris, salwar kameez, frocks, and fatwa for themselves.

For children, there are panjabis, shirts, t-shirts, fatwa, frocks, and salwar kameez while adults are more inclined towards panjabis, fatwa, and lightly designed saris.

Considering the demand of consumers, fashion houses have also given more importance to cotton clothes. Fashion designers say that cotton fabrics are suitable for both hot and rainy weather.

“The trend of this Eid is simple and close-knit dress. Customers are avoiding dresses with heavy fabrics and designs. They are buying clothes with similar colours and designs. They are selecting products that have a good finish and comfort eyes,” CEO of Anjan’s Shaheen Ahmed told the Daily Sun.

He also said that as the prices of goods have gone up all over the world, therefore, they designed and crafted dresses keeping this in mind so that the prices of the products do not go up and create pressure on buyers.

While talking to the Daily Sun, a number of shoppers have stated their interest in purchasing clothes from brand shops. They said that the local brands have earned their trust as they are bringing quality products.

Zahid Bin Kalam, executive of a corporate company and a shopper, said, “I am buying clothes from brand shops. Our clothes are going worldwide. Our local brands have been doing great. I have been using their products for the last several years. Apart from comfortable fabrics, they bring classy designs.”

Sailor, Yellow, Ecstasy, Cat’s Eye, Aarong, Nabarupa, KayKraft, Anjan’s, Biswarong, Deshal, Rong Bangladesh, Richman, Infinity, Sara Lifestyle, Artisan, Texmart, Gentle Park, Plus Point, etc. local fashion brands have brought dresses of numerous designs which have attracted a good number of shoppers this year.

Sara Lifestyle’s head of fashion design, Shamim Rahman, said, “We have brought dresses for three different times on the Eid day. We have produced dresses that are light yet elegant. We have blended modern vibes with traditional designs.”

This correspondent has found that apart from cotton, this year the demand for linen, georgette, and chiffon is also high.
